The Global Initiative for the Advancement of Africa (GIAA) proudly announces the successful conclusion of the African Ambassadors’ Economic Forum (AAEFORUM) 2026, held from July 16–19, 2026, at the Westin Crystal City Hotel, Arlington, Virginia, in the Washington Metropolitan Area.

Convened under the theme:

“Unifying African Leaders to Advance U.S.–Africa Relations Under the African Union Agenda 2063,”

The four-day Forum brought together African Ambassadors, senior government officials, U.S. elected leaders, policymakers, development finance institutions, private sector executives, investors, entrepreneurs, academia, civil society, and members of the African diaspora to advance practical partnerships that accelerate Africa’s transformation through diplomacy, trade, investment, innovation, and sustainable development.

More than a conference, AAEFORUM 2026 served as an action-oriented policy, investment, and business platform designed to translate high-level dialogue into commercial opportunities, institutional collaboration, and measurable development outcomes aligned with the aspirations of African Union Agenda 2063.

Turning Vision into Action

The concept behind AAEFORUM 2026 was ambitious yet practical—to move conversations beyond diplomacy into bankable partnerships, stronger investment flows, policy collaboration, and sustainable economic growth capable of accelerating Africa’s transformation.

Over four intensive days, delegates engaged in high-level discussions and curated engagements across the Forum’s strategic pillars, including security and democratic governance; healthcare, biosecurity, and pandemic preparedness; renewable energy and climate security; infrastructure and industrial corridors; technology and digital transformation; capital access and strategic funding; trade, raw materials, and value addition; creative industry and soft power diplomacy; and job creation and human capital development.

The Forum emphasized that Africa’s future prosperity depends not merely on exporting raw materials but on expanding industrialization, strengthening regional value chains, embracing technological innovation, mobilizing blended finance and private investment, and positioning Africans and the African diaspora as co-architects of the continent’s economic future.

Through Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business-to-Government (B2G) engagements, investment conversations, networking, and sector-focused dialogue, participants explored opportunities for stronger diplomatic and commercial partnerships, expanded market access for African businesses, greater private sector participation in infrastructure and industrial development, technology transfer, youth employment initiatives, and deeper cooperation in healthcare, security, energy, and digital innovation.

Throughout the Forum, government leaders, diplomats, investors, academics, entrepreneurs, and development practitioners demonstrated a shared commitment to transforming dialogue into action through stronger institutional collaboration and sustainable partnerships.

In his openening speech appreciated the mayor of Washington DC,African Ambassadors and heads of government in attendance.
Dr utchay odims spoke extensively on the need for African American,African European,African Carribean and Africa Africa to come together to build the Africa we want.

Dr utchay who is a pan African advocate spoke about Africa as the richest continent in the world should have no business with poverty and its time for Africa to take her rightful place in the committee of nations and that Africa time and season is now and to achieve the African dream Africa must enthrone servant leadership,value added trade,unity in diversity and tell her own story

Mayor Muriel Bowser Reaffirms Washington, D.C.’s Commitment to Africa

A defining moment of the Summit was the keynote address delivered by The Honorable Muriel Elizabeth Bowser, Mayor of the District of Columbia.

Mayor Bowser reaffirmed Washington, D.C.’s commitment to strengthening engagement with African nations and the African diaspora while highlighting the importance of expanding international partnerships that promote inclusive economic growth, innovation, entrepreneurship, investment, education, and cultural exchange.

Her participation underscored the District’s growing role as an international gateway for diplomacy, trade, and global cooperation and reflected the city’s commitment to supporting initiatives that deepen U.S.–Africa relations. Her presence elevated the stature of the Forum and reinforced the importance of city-to-city diplomacy in shaping future economic partnerships.

Governor Wes Moore Recognizes the Forum’s Growing Impact

The Forum also received special recognition from His Excellency Governor Wes Moore, Governor of the State of Maryland.

Representing Governor Moore was Mr. Luis V. McSween, President of CariBeat LLC, Founder of the Eye of the Tiger Foundation, and Chair of Governor Wes Moore’s Commission on Caribbean Affairs. Speaking on behalf of Governor Moore, Mr. McSween conveyed the Governor’s goodwill to the organizers and delegates while recognizing the African Ambassadors’ Economic Forum as an important platform contributing to Maryland’s international business ecosystem and strengthening engagement between African nations and the State of Maryland.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was the reading of Governor Moore’s official Proclamation honoring the Forum and recognizing the contributions of its Co-Founders, Dr. David James Egwu and Dr. Utchay Odims, for their visionary leadership in advancing international dialogue, economic cooperation, diaspora engagement, and Africa–U.S. partnerships.

The proclamation represented an important affirmation of the Forum’s growing influence and the significance of its mission to foster stronger economic and diplomatic ties between Africa and the United States.

These conversations generated practical recommendations aimed at expanding investment opportunities, strengthening institutional cooperation, improving regional competitiveness, accelerating digital transformation, increasing value-added production across Africa, and supporting a modern U.S.–Africa partnership founded on shared prosperity, mutual respect, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.

Celebrating African Excellence

The Forum concluded with the Africa Day Afrobeat Concert & CEO Global Award Gala Dinner, celebrating Africa’s remarkable achievements through music, culture, diplomacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

The Gala honored outstanding individuals whose contributions continue to shape Africa’s development, strengthen diaspora engagement, and promote international cooperation. The celebration served as a reminder that Africa’s cultural influence remains one of its greatest strategic assets for advancing diplomacy, tourism, trade, and global partnerships.

One of the defining highlights of the African Ambassadors’ Economic Forum (AAEFORUM) 2026 was the prestigious CEO Global Awards 2026, presented by the Global Initiative for the Advancement of Africa (GIAA).
